From record-breaking temperatures and disastrous precipitation to gale-force winds and the ever-elusive thundersnow, professional storm chasers and armchair meteorologists alike love to watch the sky and talk about the elements.
Outdoor enthusiasts often say there is no such thing as bad weather, only poor clothing choices, and the same idea applies to surveillance cameras for businesses. An IP rating has two numbers. The first indicates dust (solid material protection) resistance and is on an increasing 0 to 6 scale. The second number demonstrates water resistance (moisture protection) and ranks from 0 to 9.

Our standard IP rating of at least 54 means that LVT Units are protected from dust and against splashing water. The head units and the battery boxes are rated separately. Each is completely sealed from the top, and will not fill up with water or other particles. In the rare event that water does make it past the seals, the head unit and battery box are constructed with drains in the bottom allowing moisture to drain rather than pooling inside the housing. And some of our mounting structures that are tied into direct power (wall mounts and pole mounts) are rated even higher and have an IP rating of 66.
LVT Units can take extreme weather. In fact, after a 150-mph tornado picked up a unit and tossed it on its side, it continued to record and never went offline. We do recommend stowing LVT Units when high winds above 60 mph are forecasted, but our tests show our equipment withstand these harsh conditions.
